How to be Good at Cold Calling – Secrets Revealed

If you landed on this page then chances are that you’re some sort of salesman who’s looking to increase their sales. Let’s face it, why else would you look up how to be good at cold calling?

The problem is, you didn’t look up how to be great at cold calling. Don’t worry though, I’m about to change the way you think because if you’re not thinking straight, then you’re definitely not selling any better.

My Story

If you don’t feel like being bored and want to just scroll down to the good stuff then I’m not going to stop you.

My aim with telling you my story, however, is trying to convince you that you aren’t any different. You may come up with excuses as to why you can’t become a successful salesperson because this, that, and the other and I’m going to try to change your freaking mind.

I’m Mitchell Dawson, 32, and I still kick myself today because all I ever did was make excuses about how I’m an introvert, people don’t get me, I don’t want to be pushy, I hate salespeople, etc.

You know what that is? That’s called deflecting and that’s called retreating. You say you want to be successful, but then you do whatever you can to avoid rejection.

Listen, I’ve been there! And if you’re reading this, there’s about a 50% chance that you fit this description.

Here’s the kicker, the fear of rejection that you have in your head is nothing compared to the pain of regret. TRUST ME! I regret that I wasn’t more proactive when I was 26 and just starting out. I wish I could just shake that kid’s head and tell him to smarten up!

If I had only taken the appropriate action when I was 26, I wouldn’t have been making $18,000/month like I am right now with my web design and marketing agency, I would have been making $100,000/month. You don’t think that’s a big deal? If you’re in the middle class right now, you’re broke. As soon as a recession hits again, your measly middle-class earnings turn into a lower class shithole and you can’t support your family.

That’s what happened to me and something had to change quick.

How to Cold Call Successfully

The first thing that you’re going to have to change is your mentality and how you approach your fears.

I can probably guess that many of you who have found this page did so because they are afraid of rejection and/or afraid to speak to strangers. And don’t go making up that excuse that you don’t want to bother people. That’s just your ego trying to cover up that you’re afraid of rejection.

Look, you’re going to experience some bad things in life. Some emotions aren’t going to be pleasant and you gotta get over that if you ever want to achieve anything in life. Life is filled with resistance and those of you who avoid it will never be successful. When have you ever met a successful person that’s too afraid to call someone?

Next, you have to write down your excuses as to why you can’t cold call someone. Then write down why those fears are illogical or useless to you.

1. Fear of rejection

It’s selfish to portect some silly emotions instead of providing a comfortable life that is free of real fear: financial fear!

2. Fear of making a fool of myself

You look like a bigger fool without any money!

3. I’m nervous

You should be more nervous about your current financial situation!

Moral of the story?

Your brain will try to protect you from being uncomfortable but success is created in the uncomfortable zone. If you stay in your comfort zone for the rest of your life, you will never succeed because you can’t push yourself to get passed something so small like emotions. Life is bigger than emotions.

“But what about scripts, objections, etc.”

If I had just finished off the article with my previous point, a lot of people would’ve complained that all I posted was changing your mindset.

But changing your mindset is the only way you can open yourself up to actually learning. If I had just thrown some magic script at you, it wouldn’t solve your problems.

You need to take care of the basics before you can even get into the specifics of writing the perfect script, mastering objections, follow ups, closing, etc.

Now I’m conflicted about letting some people know about this because they could be my competitors in the future, but I’m going to do this for the little guy that wants to actually learn how to BE A MASTER ON THE PHONE.

Look, before I drop this bomb on everybody reading, I’ve got to tell you a disclaimer. If you’re a quitter that starts something for 2 days and then gives up, nothing is going to help you. You’re afraid of getting your hands dirty. Money has a lot of bacteria on it so those who don’t want to get their hands dirty will stay broke forever.
